Correlation of Spiritual Well-Being with Spiritual Intelligence and Emotional Intelligence in Students at Mohaghegh Ardebili University

Abstract:

Introduction: Spiritual intelligence and emotional intelligence are considered to be a well-being determinant in the students. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation of spiritual well-being with spiritual intelligence and emotional intelligence in students of Mohaghegh Ardebili University. Methods: The present study is a descriptive-correlational research which was conducted on 382 students of Mohaghegh Ardebili University in the academic year 2016-2017, selected by multistage cluster sampling method. The data collection instruments were "Spiritual Well-Being Scale", "King's Spiritual Intelligence Scale" and "Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire". Validity and reliability of questionnaires have been proven in previous studies. Data were analyzed using SPSS. 18. Results: There was a significant correlation between spiritual intelligence (r = 0.59) and emotional intelligence (r = 0.55) with spiritual well-being among students (P <0.05). Also, the results of stepwise regression showed that spiritual intelligence and emotional intelligence in students predict their spiritual well-being (P <0.05). Conclusions: Spiritual and emotional intelligence is one of the variables related to spiritual well-being of students and is able to predict it. It is suggested that policymakers provide educational programs by providing appropriate educational content and environment and adopt effective strategies for improving the spiritual well-being of students during their education.
